Shop Floors on Argyle Acreage

Epoxy flooring in Argyle often means a floor bigger than a two-car garage. The 2020 census counted 99.7% of Argyle's 4,403 residents as rural. They are spread across about 11.6 square miles, which works out to under 400 people per square mile. More land per home means more room for a detached shop, an equipment barn or a garage built for a truck, a trailer and a tractor. Those slabs take more abuse than a typical garage, so we treat them more like commercial floors.

Railroad roots and open land

Argyle was settled in the 1850s as Pilot Knob, and it took the name Argyle in 1881 when the Texas and Pacific railroad laid track through the area. It incorporated on September 19, 1960. The town grew slowly for a long time. The census counted 1,111 residents in 1980, 2,365 in 2000 and 4,403 in 2020. That steady pace left Argyle with a mix of ranch-era outbuildings and newer custom homes, and the concrete under them varies just as much.

What heavy use does to a shop slab

  • Point loads: tractor tires, trailer jacks and jack stands concentrate weight and can chip the edges of joints
  • Fluids: hydraulic oil, diesel, grease and fertilizer can soak into bare concrete and break down weak coatings
  • Dragged equipment: implements and pallets scrape the surface
  • Dust and mud: hauled in on boots and tires from the pasture

For floors like that we use a commercial floor epoxy system. That means a thicker base, aggregate for grip in work lanes and a chemical-resistant topcoat. Joints that have chipped get rebuilt so equipment wheels roll over them instead of breaking them further.

Older outbuildings and crack repair

An old barn or shop slab may have been poured without control joints, or without much base under it. It may have wide cracks, settled sections or a rough, worn surface. We grind it, fill cracks and spalls, and resurface low or broken spots before coating. If a section is still moving or heaving, we tell you during the estimate. A coating can bridge a hairline crack, but it cannot hold together a slab that keeps shifting.

Homes that stay in the family

Of Argyle's 1,422 households in 2020, 92.1% were owner-occupied and 77.4% were married couples. Many owners here want a floor that still works after years of heavy use. We plan for that with more thickness, a full grind and a topcoat that can be renewed. For the house itself, we also coat attached garages with flake and polyaspartic systems.

Timing a big floor

A large shop floor takes longer than a garage, and a working ranch or business may not be able to clear it all at once. We can coat a shop in halves, moving equipment from one side to the other between stages. We plan the seam between the halves to land on a control joint, where it will not show. Tell us what has to stay in use during the job, and we will build the schedule around it.

Getting a price

Large floors are priced by measured square footage and the repairs they need. We come out, measure the slab, test moisture and write up a quote. Call (972) 645-4494 to book a visit.

Argyle Questions

Can epoxy hold up under a tractor or loaded trailer?

A properly built commercial system on sound concrete can handle tractors and trailers. The concrete under it matters as much as the coating. We check slab thickness at visible edges and look for cracks or settling. If a slab is too thin or broken to carry the load, we say so before quoting.

My barn slab has wide cracks. Is it worth coating?

Often it is, after repair. We fill and grind cracks, rebuild broken joints and resurface rough areas. If a crack keeps opening or one side keeps sinking, that needs a concrete or foundation fix before any coating.

Do you coat floors in large detached shops?

Yes. Shops, equipment barns and large garages are a regular part of our work around Argyle. We bring grinders sized for big floors and quote by the measured area.
