A Poured Floor for Rooms People Spend Time In
Metallic epoxy floors are poured resin floors with metallic pigment mixed in. As the resin is spread and worked, the pigment moves and settles into swirls, veins and pools of color. No two floors come out the same. Around Lewisville we install metallic epoxy in garages turned into game rooms and gyms, in studios and offices on concrete, and in retail and salon floors where the look matters. Local demand is there: a Lewisville question on Yelp this month asked specifically for shops that do decorative metallic or flake epoxy.
Where metallic works
- Garages converted to a game room, home gym, golf simulator room or bar
- Detached shops and studios with a concrete floor
- Retail spaces, salons and sales floors
- Covered rooms that will not see heavy grit or direct afternoon sun
Metallic is a poor choice for a working garage with sand, trailer jacks and dripping boats. It shows scratches and dust more than flake does. For a parking garage we steer people toward flake and keep metallic for rooms that get swept, not hosed.
How a metallic floor is built
The slab is ground smooth and every crack and pit is filled, because a self-leveling pour shows what is under it. A primer coat seals the concrete so it does not release air bubbles into the pour. Then the metallic layer is poured and spread at a set thickness, and the installer works the pigment with rollers, brushes, sprayed solvent or a leaf blower to create the pattern you picked. Once cured, a clear topcoat goes on for scratch and UV resistance.
Choosing colors and patterns
Metallic floors are designed together with you. We show sample boards and photos of patterns: soft marble veining, wide lava-style swirls, a lightly moving single color, or two or three colors blended. Darker bases with silver or copper look dramatic. Lighter pearl and champagne colors brighten a room without windows. We confirm color, pattern and sheen in writing before the pour, because once it starts the pattern is set by hand in real time.
Slab flatness and the old garage floor
Garage floors slope toward the door so water drains out. When a garage becomes a room, that slope is still there, and a poured metallic will show it as color pooling at the low side. We check the slope at the estimate. If you want a level floor, the slab can be leveled with a self-leveling underlayment first, which adds cost and a day to the job. Many people keep the slope and accept a little more color at the low edge.
Sun and topcoat
Epoxy yellows in direct sun over time, and on a metallic floor that shift is easy to see. If the room has a south or west window that throws light on the floor, we recommend a UV-stable polyaspartic or urethane topcoat over the metallic layer.
Care
Use felt pads on furniture legs, keep grit off the floor with mats at doors, and dust-mop often. A pH-neutral cleaner keeps the gloss up. Rolling chairs need a chair mat or soft casters.
What This Covers
A metallic floor is a design job and a coating job at the same time.
Smooth prep and patching
Grinding and filling every crack and pit so the poured layer shows the pattern and not the slab.
Primer and metallic pour
A sealing primer, then the metallic layer poured and worked into your chosen pattern.
Color and pattern design
Sample boards and pattern choices confirmed in writing before the pour.
UV-stable topcoat
A clear protective coat chosen for the light the room gets.
Slab leveling option
Self-leveling underlayment to remove a garage slope before the pour.

Typical Metallic Epoxy Floor Costs

|---|---|
| Metallic epoxy, per square foot | $5 to $12 |
| 300 sq ft room at that rate | About $1,500 to $3,600 |

Per-square-foot range from Bob Vila's epoxy garage floor cost guide; room totals are that range multiplied out. Resurfacing from HomeGuide, patching from HomeAdvisor. Pattern complexity, number of colors and leveling change the total. Your written estimate is the price.
How It Works
1. Design
We look at the room, check slope and light, and choose colors and a pattern from samples.
2. Prep
The slab is ground smooth, patched and primed, and leveled if you chose that.
3. Pour and work
The metallic layer is poured and worked into the pattern while it is still wet.
4. Topcoat and cure
A clear topcoat goes on after the pour cures, and we give you times for furniture and foot traffic.

Metallic Epoxy Floors Questions
How much does a metallic epoxy floor cost?
Bob Vila puts metallic epoxy at about $5 to $12 per square foot. A 300 square foot game room would run about $1,500 to $3,600 at that rate. Leveling a sloped garage slab or using several colors adds to it.
Can metallic epoxy go in a garage I still park in?
It can, but it shows scratches, sand and tire marks more than flake. For a working garage we usually recommend flake. Metallic suits a garage that has become a room.
Will I know exactly what the floor will look like?
You will choose the colors and pattern style from samples, and we follow that plan. The swirls are made by hand while the resin is wet, so the exact pattern is unique to your floor.
Is a metallic floor slippery?
A high-gloss metallic floor can be slick when wet, as HomeGuide notes for epoxy in general. An anti-slip additive in the topcoat helps, with a small change to the sheen.
