Garages Around the Hogan Course

Epoxy flooring in Trophy Club often starts with a garage that holds a golf cart next to the cars. The town was planned around a country club, and the TSHA handbook says residents now have two golf courses along with nature trails. A cart that plugs in every night, clubs leaning on the wall and grass clippings rolling in on the tires all end up on the same slab.

How the town was built

In 1973, developers brought the Westlake city council a plan for an upscale community around a country club. The club was named for the idea of displaying Ben Hogan's trophies, and Hogan designed its golf course, reportedly the only one he ever designed. Trophy Club incorporated on January 19, 1985, and today covers about 2,385 acres off State Highway 114, south of the western edge of Grapevine Lake.

Two building eras on one map

Trophy Club grew in steps. It had 3,922 residents in 1990 and 8,024 in 2010, then reached 13,688 by 2020. That means the town has original homes from the club's early decades alongside a large wave of houses built in the 2010s. The floors are different:

  • Older homes: slabs that may carry 30 to 40 years of stains, worn paint or an old sealer, plus cracked joints. These need coating removal and crack repair before anything new goes on.
  • Newer homes: smooth, dense builder slabs that look clean but are too slick for a coating to grip. They still get ground, and we test moisture since newer concrete can hold more of it.

Built for carts, kids and gear

The 2020 census counted 4,566 households, and 45.3% had children under 18. Between the cart, bikes, sports bags and a second fridge, a Trophy Club garage gets a lot of foot and wheel traffic. Here is what tends to work:

  • Flake floors for most family garages. The chips hide grass, dust and scuffs, and a grit topcoat adds traction.
  • Polyaspartic topcoats where the door is open on summer evenings. They resist yellowing from sun better than many epoxies.
  • Extra thickness at the cart spot where a charger cord, battery drips and tight turns concentrate wear.
  • Metallic epoxy for a bonus room or home bar, where looks matter more than grit.

HOA and neighborhood timing

Much of Trophy Club is organized around shared amenities and neighborhood rules. A floor coating is interior work, but crews, a trailer and a grinder with a dust collector will be in your driveway for a day or two. If your street has rules about work hours or contractor parking, let us know and we will plan around them.

Care between rounds of golf

Grass, sand from bunkers and a little fertilizer dust ride home on cart tires and spikes. On a coated floor that sweeps up in a minute. Rinse the floor now and then with plain water and a soft broom, and avoid steel-bristle brushes that scratch the topcoat. If the cart battery leaks, wipe it up the same day. A spare floor mat under the charger keeps cords and drips in one place.

Trophy Club Questions

Will a golf cart damage an epoxy garage floor?

Normal cart traffic is fine on a properly built floor. Tight turns on the same spot and battery acid drips are the main concerns. We build thicker where the cart parks and use a chemical-resistant topcoat.

My Trophy Club home is new. Does the slab still need grinding?

Yes. New garage slabs are usually troweled very smooth, and coatings do not grip well on that surface. Grinding opens it up. We also test moisture, since newer concrete can still be releasing water.

Can you remove the old coating on an original Trophy Club garage?

Yes. We grind off old paint, sealers and failed kits down to sound concrete. Then we repair cracks and joints before the new system goes on.
